Burn the Tape – Let the Smoke Linger

Thunder Jam Records is proud to present the debut album from Burn the Tape – Let the Smoke Linger. Burn the Tape aka Steve Ford is no stranger to Thunder Jam. Steve, with production partner Drew Schapper, released a number of EPs and tracks under the name Planet Jumper, on a myriad of labels - including Thunder Jam - over the last decade. Their unique brand of four on the floor funk helped drive many discerning dance floors in Planet Jumper’s native country, Australia, and indeed across the world.
Steve is back now and writing under a new moniker - Burn the Tape – and with a new release in tow. Let the Smoke Linger is his first (of hopefully) many albums under this name. The album seeks to explore a range of styles, including instrumental hip hop, modern funk and slo-mo house. While the sounds of this album have been “pitched down” when compared with his previous work with Drew as Planet Jumper, this album still principally draws from the “funk well” for inspiration. However, Let the Smoke Linger is not a retro attempt to dine out on tropes and styles of the past. Instead, Steve has created a kaleidoscopic vision of what funk can sound like now and into the future.
We here at Thunder Jam are honoured to play a part in helping push this album out into the world and we sincerely hope you enjoy listening to Burn the Tape’s epic album, Let the Smoke Linger, as much as we did when we first heard it.
